The prime minister of Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has come out again to dispel baseless rumors doing rounds on social media about the Kabaka Ronald Mutebi 11.
Propaganda circulating media platforms suggested the Mutebi 11 traveled to Germany for purely critical health reasons.
Photos went viral on social media showing Kabaka’s arrival in Berlin, Germany being welcomed by one of his subjects who is pictured kneeling down before him.
The pictures were soon captioned with statements claiming the Kabaka had traveled to treat throat cancer complications.
On Wednesday, Katikiro Mayiga explained the circumstances surrounding the King’s travel to Germany.
Katikkiro Mayiga says the Kabaka Mutebi traveled specifically for two reasons.
One was to inspect the activities of his Kabaka Foundation in Germany where he will meet different subjects.
And the second is he will take advantage of the advanced medical system in Germany to visit medical experts for his allergy complications.
The Kabaka’s health concerns started early this year with rumors he was in a critical state after a while the Kabaka appeared frail for his 66th birthday celebrations.
Soon his subjects in Uganda and across the diaspora made noise about his state and demanded an explanation and that he gets the medication he requires.
Kattikiro Mayiga was compelled to release a statement on his condition in a presser, he explained that Kabaka Mutebi had suffered allergies and his situation was under control.
“Ssabasajja is being treated by specialized doctors and we are optimistic that he will be fine,”he said
The Kabaka Mutebi last week appeared looking stronger for a closed-door meeting with the head of state , President Museveni before he was seen in pictures arriving in Berlin.
Sources said the Nakasero State Lodge meeting was organized to discuss issues pertinent to Buganda and Uganda’s development.
“During the meeting, President Museveni and Kabaka Mutebi discussed development matters of mutual interest between the Kingdom and the government. The two leaders later briefly exchanged pleasantries, both acknowledging that they have taken long without a meeting, before going in for a closed door meeting,” reads a brief statement issued by the Presidential Press Unit.
The meeting followed plans by the government to amend the Land Tenure system to among others abolish the Mailo Land tenure system, which is most prevalent in Buganda.
Speaking d his 28 coronation anniversary on Saturday, Kabaka Mutebi said such actions by the government are aimed at weakening Buganda Kingdom.
