Lord Mayor Lukwago is still wondering what propelled President Yoweri Museveni to address the nation on Saturday night.
President Museveni castigated security on the reports that emerged of some individuals involved in beating and killing innocent citizens. The President’s speech has attracted criticism mainly from opposition who claim it is not typical of his character.
Erias Lukwago has been arrested several times by security and believes the President is trying to wash his hands clean of errant officers.
Lord Mayor Lukwago who was on the NBS morning show, said: “My gut tells me there are forces pushing him in a direction he may not like. I think it could also be a mindset game.”
He queried: “I am still wondering what triggered the President’s security address. It was uncharacteristic of him, and he didn’t tell us what prompted him to address the nation on security.”
Lukwago tipped: “I think the President wanted to distance himself from the nasty deeds committed by the security forces.”
He taunted people around him: “Now that the President is changing what he is saying about human rights, the apologists are also changing.”
Lord Mayor Lukwago who was on the show with former Tororo Municipality MP, Sanjay Tana revealed: “Whatever Museveni says, the likes of Hon. Sanjay Tanna just parrot the same. Every time Museveni would talk about Human Rights, he would praise the military, and the Sanjay’s would sing the same.”
He said: “What I expected from the President if he was innocent was to highlight those security officers that have been arrested for violation of Human Rights. He talks about stray bullets like they are a hailstorm. There’s someone responsible for it.”
Lord Mayor Lukwago added: “The beneficiary of the violation of human rights is Gen. Museveni. The security forces do it in the name of protecting Gen. Museveni in power.”
