Locals in Buwama Town Council are still mad and grieving the loss of 2 children who were hit by the fast speeding ride belonging to outspoken Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye.
Angry locals pulled out machetes and stones, threatening to lynch the MP but alas, he was saved by police who were swift in arriving at the scene.
The vicious accident involving a LandCruiser personalized number plate ‘MP WAITU’, and motorbike UDX577E happened at Mbizzinya–Kyengera Village near Buwama Town along Kampala-Masaka highway.
Mwijukye’s driver was reportedly overspeeding at 6 pm when he rammed into 2 pedestrians and a Boda Boda rider, the 2 pedestrian kids died on the spot while the Boda rider reportedly died this morning at Gombe Hospital.
Police have since identified the deceased as Florence Nabukenya, 13, and Tadeous Lubyayi, 9- both siblings from Mbizinya Village, Buwama Town Council.
Police say the MP was riding with 3 others in his splash car who have also sustained injuries.
“The Honourable and other occupants who were in his vehicle are safe. Both wreckages of the vehicle and motorcycle are parked at Buwama police station pending police inspection,” Katonga Regional Police Spokesperson, Lydia Tumushabe told the Daily Monitor
She further confirms that the driver, James Barekye was overspeeding hence raming into the 3 victims.
