The Mayor Kawempe Division Dr. Emmanuel Serunjoji Oweddembe has summoned the KCCA Director of Engineering, the Director Gender, and the Project Manager over slow repairs at the Nakamiro drainage and Rubigi channels.
Mayor Serunjoji has asked for a joint meeting with the Project consultants in a joint meeting with area leaders and the PDC slated for this Friday 27th August 2021.
The project under KIIDP and funded by the World bank has stalled exposing locals to floods.
Dr. Serunjoji Ow’Eddembe who was addressing area leaders of Kazo Angola and surrounding areas noted that the project that was meant to be completed by June 2021 might not be complete by the end of this year.
The Mayor is also concerned about the quality of the work on these drainages where some completed parts have already developed cracks.
The outspoken mayor has threatened to ensure that those responsible for the delay and shoddy works on the project are dealt with.
He explains that although the money is a grant , it is still taxpayers’ money that needs to be accounted for.
He further states that as leaders they can not just sit and watch.
