Geoffrey Oloya, the alpha ‘vulnerable ‘ Ugandan to get the Covid 19 relief cash on live television has been arrested for impersonation.
Oloya was netted shortly after appearing at Gulu City offices to explain circumstances under which he received the 100000 relief cash package.
His arrest follows a review process of all beneficiaries of the Nabbanja money that was promised to over 13 categories of vulnerable Ugandans during the 2021,42-day lockdown.
The parliamentary Accounts and local government committees were mandated by the deputy speaker of parliament to review the beneficiaries following discrepancies.
It was established that Geoffrey Oloya who was called by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja while flagging off the distribution exercise was a quack Boda Boda rider.
Oloya who registered as a Boda Boda rider instead works with the office of the Gulu City Mayor and is reportedly a businessman.
Oloya was also disowned by the Boda Boda Association in Gulu City as well as Gulu City leaders and his phone number has been off since receiving the cash.
The Gulu City Clerk Moses Otimong confirmed that Oloya doesn’t exist in the records and such person is not resident on Gulu City.
Oloya on Tuesday appeared at Gulu City offices where he was arrested. He was later released after the intervention of district leaders.
It has been established that at least 11,000 names registered from Gulu as vulnerable members who required the relief fund but most were wrong persons and the number inflated.
In June 2021, the government approved Shs 53.5 billion Covid-19 relief fund for 13 categories of Ugandans affected by the second Covid-19 lockdown.
The money was reportedly rolled out to beneficiaries across all the cities and town councils across the country.
