Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has asked the deputy speaker of Parliament to stick to her lane as compared to interfering with the roles of Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA.
His impolite statement follows a proposal from the deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among on Sunday to rename a street in Kampala after fallen City tycoon Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige -BMK.
During a massively attended funeral for BMK at Wakiso district, deputy speaker Among revealed that parliament would pass a motion to rename a dominant street in Kampala after the deceased tycoon.
‘‘Instead of having streets named after people we don’t know like Willam street, As Parliament, we agreed that we should not allow his name to die. We will pass a motion, and name a street BMK,”
The lord Mayor agrees but says it is the role of KCCA and not parliament to name streets.
In a tweet, Lukwago says;”“Renaming Wampeewo avenue after the fallen BMK is no doubt a brilliant idea, but the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Among ought to be reminded that Parliament shouldn’t be relegated to the level of a Kampala Capital City Authority Council,”
