LOP Mpuuga boasts
The outspoken Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Hon Mathias Mpuuga, has boasted of hitting a milestone within the first 100 days.
Mpuuga proudly announced the baby steps he has taken during a presser at parliament on Wednesday afternoon.
Mpuuga, who subscribes to the biggest opposition political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP) assumed office in June 2021.
The vocal legislator says one of his solid achievements so far is uniting members of the opposition in parliament to work together towards one agenda.
Mpuuga says he has launched a 17-point legislative agenda with proposals for constitutional amendments, deepening decentralization, and health services sector review on Friday this week.
LOP Mpuuga boasts
This will be presented at Parliament House in a ceremony officiated by Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
Mpuuga says “The agenda is a map of the work we want to do as the Opposition, but the document is not conclusive. There is no legal requirement for me to lay it before the House but if I chose to, I would go to the Business Committee and ask to lay it,”
The poised legislator further mentioned that the Opposition in Parliament is in the process of generating Private Members’ Bills.
The LOP advised MPs to be proactive and make adequate research ahead of making presentations on the Floor of Parliament.
“As the Opposition, we are building capacity through training and orientation so as to sharpen the edges of our MPs to work better. The job of Parliament needs particular skills which we are helping each other to pick on,” Mpuuga said.
