UPDF soldiers smashed

Traffic was brought to a standstill on Thursday morning at 7 am after a vicious accident involving a UPDF Land Cruiser H4DF280 collided with a Uganda Railways train in Kinawataka, Kireka, Kampala leaving two soldiers in critical condition.

The duo whose identities remain unknown sustained grave injuries and have been rushed to a yet-to-be-identified hospital.

The soldiers were driving in a UPDF Land cruiser H4DF2180 when they accidentally rammed into a train belonging to the Uganda Railways.

The green Landcruiser occupied by 2 soldiers was smashed by the train that was headed to the City center.

Locals immediately ran to their rescue and started fidgeting to pull out the injured soldiers whose limbs had been stuck in the wreckage.

After hours of toiling, UPDF soldiers took charge of the scene and started working with locals to remove the gravely injured victims from the flattened car.

However, some locals have accused the UPDF of flogging good Samaritans at the scene who were trying to rescue victims.

“We are the ones helping, yet they insist on beating us with these heavy sticks, we came here as early as 7 am, will the guns they have come with rescue those men, the man who brought a grinder to cut is being beaten instead and the updf car was overspeeding,” Mugidu Amos complained.

According to eyewitnesses, the UPDF ride was speeding to escape another accident scene at Bweyogerere where they reportedly knocked down a Boda Boda and a female passenger.

Police arrived at the scene and quelled the drama, in addition to restoring traffic.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire says investigations have commenced; “Police at Kireka working with fire and rescue services have responded to the incident, the fire and rescue services were able to rescue two UPDF soldiers albeit, in very critical condition. The two, both privates, have been taken for treatment. The situation at the scene is now contained and normal traffic has resumed.”
