Only 110 participants are physically in attendance at the Eastern sports ground of the University while others are present virtually. Clad in a black graduation gowns with red and yellow collars, the happy students have been neatly spaced in a white huge tent with red chairs. The excited students could earlier  be seen taking selfies with colleagues in celebration of achieving a milestone. However, outside, the ceremony has been bulletproofed with armed security forces heavily deployed around Kyambogo University. As early as 6am in the morning, the University and its vicinity was littered with armed men in uniform walking on patrol and others stationed at various strategic points. The officers including Uganda Police Force, local Defense Force Unit, Army and Kamed security Limited, a private security company contracted to Kyambogo University are keenly looking to silence any trouble causers . All gates including Kyambogo University main gate, Banda and Kabaka gate have a minimum of 20 security personnel. This development follows reports that a group of people were planning to frustrate the graduation ceremony that is targeting to pass out  at least 8,000 students.

On Monday, the Chief Security Officer of Kyambogo University Mission Samuel told the URN that they had received information that some people were planning to disrupt the graduation process.

This comes after a High Court decision last week, throwing out a petition filed by 200 aggrieved students seeking to block the graduation process. The students were left frustrated after Principal Judge Dr. Flavia Zeiji upheld the University’s graduation for next week. The Judge said there was no evidence to support the case in the form of affidavits of the 45 students attached to support the case, and it was not drafted before the Commissioner of Courts. The enraged students who showed up in Court with receipts showing proof of fees payment explained that despite having fulfilled all the necessary requirements, the University went ahead to discriminatively select a few students to graduate. The University authorities have since explained that all aggrieved students have been worked on and will graduate at a later date.
