Police in Wakiso district are holding three suspects accused of killing a signaler attached to the CCTV National Command Centre at Naguru Police Headquarters.
Jerome Bwayo went missing on September 23, 2021, and his decaying lifeless body was found at Namavundu zone in Kasangati town council, a few metres from Grace Bulamu High School in Wakiso district.
The three people suspected to have been involved in Bwayo’s death are Simon Ssekamatte, the headteacher of Grace-Bulamu High School, John Martin Obo, a security head at the same school and Junior Niyonsaba, a casual labourer. The victim’s body, wrapped in a black polythene bag, was discovered close to the school by his disgruntled family with the assistance of private investigators.
His family told police that the deceased’s last phone calls indicated that he last spoke to Ssekamate.
The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Spokesperson, Charles Twine, says investigations are underway to establish what could have triggered Ssekamate and his colleagues to murder the deceased and discard his body a few metres from the school gate.
Twine adds that Ssekamatte has confessed to having had a close relationship with the deceased. Bwayo apparently always gave him a ride on his motorbike from Kira town to school during curfew time and that the deceased dropped him off the same night he went missing. The numerous calls to Bwayo shortly after dropping him off that night were apparently to confirm that he had arrived home safely.
According to Twine, Police has established that Bwayo’s motorcycle is missing and could have been taken by his assailants on that fateful night.
“We are going to intensify the investigations now that we have seen the dead body and know the cause of death, but also because the culprits went away with his motorcycle. We are going to track the machine because we believe it will not be hidden for long. And, even if it is cut into spare parts we shall use all the intelligence to detect where those spare parts are being shared from,” he said.
