Unvaccinated staff at the Ministry of Health have been left in utter shock after they were denied access to their work premises.

The staff, who have not yet received Covid-19 vaccination, have been ordered not to enter the offices until they have complied with the directive aimed at controlling the spread of the disease.

This follows the release of  an internal memo by the Director General of Health Services, Dr.Henry Mwebesa, and copied to the health ministers and the Permanent Secretary.

According to the memo, a committee meeting held on October 5, 2021 resolved that all staff who are not fully vaccinated should not access the ministry premises.

“Accordingly, all staff must get vaccinated and show results whenever coming to work and this takes immediate effect,” the memo dated October 18, 2021 reads in part.

This is the second government entity to publicly ban unvaccinated staff from entering their work premises. Last week, the National Medical Stores (NMS) blocked staff and visitors under similar circumstances.

NMS, however, directed that only staff and visitors who present a Covid-19 negative PCR test taken within 72 hours can be allowed entry.

Similar incidents have been witnessed at local governments in upcountry cities where government workers have been ordered to take Covid-19 jabs before accessing the workplace.
