Jose Chameleone shared a video where area residents stormed his convoy of vehicles, giving him a massive welcome in Kenya.
Is Jose Chameleone an East African or African Legend? Certainly both! He secured that status in 2015 when MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) organizers nominated him in the category of Mama Evolution.
Ten of Africa’s most popular and influential musicians were nominated for the ‘Evolution’ award. These included, 2Face Idibia (Nigeria), Asa (Nigeria), D’Banj (Nigeria), Psquare (Nigeria), Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Black Coffee (South Africa), Fally Ipupa (DRC), HHP (S. Africa), Samini (Ghana), and Jose Chameleone (Uganda).
According to the organizing committee, the MAMA ‘Evolution’ award was specifically to honour established artistes who made indelible mark on African and global music culture, took African music to new territories around the world, pushed the boundaries of creativity and shaped the landscape of contemporary Africa.
Well, Chameleone might have lost the distinguished award to D’Banj, who emerged winner but that nomination was just enough.
Superstars like Diamond Platnumz already crowned him the Godfather of East African Music and yes indeed, he deserves all the praise.

He might not have a Grammy or BET Award, but Chameleone has literally done it all for the past two decades. The 42-year-old music icon has dropped continental hits, headlined sold out music shows and festivals almost in each and every country on the continent. He needs no introduction as his works speak volumes. Most of his lyrics are in Luganda, English and Swahili which has also facilitated his music to cut across and become a darling over the years.
Over the weekend, Chameleone was in Kenya, Eldoret for a music gig and yes, you guessed right. The husky-voiced music legend once again received a heroic welcome.
Cruising his sleek ride, Range Rover Autobiography 2021, which was gifted to him by Sevo’s kid bro, the talented music star hit the streets of Eldoret as thousands stood by the roadside to catch a glimpse of him.
Overwhelmed by the warm reception, he opened his roof, stood up and waved back to the star-struck fans.
He shared a video on his Instagram, where area residents stormed his vehicle to shower him with love.
“ELDORET Amazing People. Thank you Kenya!!,” he captioned the post.
