Mob suspect confesses
One suspect in police custody has confessed to instigating a mob of irate youth to murder a female weightlifter in Jinja City under unclear circumstances.
Prossy Nyanga, 33, was killed by an armed gang on Saturday night at Budhumbuli Cell, Bugembe Ward in Jinja City. She died after sustaining deep cuts to the neck, back and stomach.
The suspect, Hudson Byansi, a resident of Idudi Cell, Idudi Town Council in Bugweri district, told police that he led the youths to kill Nyanga and later fled into hiding. He is currently being held at the Jinja Central Police Station on murder charges after confessing to having participated in Nyanga’s killing.
Byansi was smoked out of his hideout in a dilapidated house within Idudi Town Council on Sunday afternoon.

Police also recovered a blood-stained knife and two mobile phones belonging to the deceased at Byansi’s house.
Byansi is accused of instigating a gang of youths on Saturday night to stab Nyanga outside a cosmetics shop, leaving her lifeless body with deep cuts.
The Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, says that Byansi has been on the police wanted list for various crimes, adding that he owns a makeshift house in Budhumbuli Cell, which he and others use to commit crimes.
The deceased’s body is at the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital awaiting autopsy procedures.
