Opposition giant, Dr. Kizza Besigye, has alleged that insecurity crisis in Uganda is resulting from a strife-ling economic crisis caused by the government.

The opposition bigwig who is currently the leading of the Red Card Front Movement says incidents like the recent attack on Busiika Police Station in Busiika Town Council in Luwero District, is a consequence of a political and crisis instigated by the government.

Besigye was speaking to Red Card Front  members at the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) headquarters in Najjanankumbi yesterday when he said the crisis will cause people to try and fend for themselves, hence increased crime.

He further explained that instead of the government dealing with the crisis, it has responded by raising terror levels in the country to create more agitation in the already aggrieved population.

Besigye alleges that the Busiika robbery and assassination incident could have been triggered by either victims of human rights violations like drone kidnappings, illegal arrests and tortures or by the State deliberately creating more fear in public.

“This episode of grabbing guns is not ordinary, It is a political response to this crisis. And who is grabbing the guns? We don’t know. It is either victims of the crisis , those saying we are fed up of being tortured with drones saying let us be killed while fending for ourselves or the Junta undertaking clandestine measures to create ground for insurgency, so that they repress the population even more,” he says

He says the economic crisis and joblessness among the youth, created by the State has given birth to such attacks.

“They started with the hawkers, swept them out of Kampala and one even died in the trenches while fleeing from them. The Human rights situation is also a consequence of the economic mismanagement we are dealing with ,” he added

Busiika Police Post, which is 33km outside Kampala was last week raided by a gang of unknown assailants who shot dead two police officers and injured three others. The incident occurred at around 7.30 pm.

One of the injured succumbed to bullet wounds this week at Bombo military hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Moses Wagaluka, the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Alex Ongoro and Steven Ondama.

Other injured officers remain hospitalized at the Military Hospital in Bombo.
