Truck Driver escapes
Traffic police in Kyengera have identified the driver of a Premio involved in a motor accident along long the Busega Entebbe express highway on Tuesday night.
ASP Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson says the accident that involved the Premio registration number UBE 862V and Canter truck Registration number UAM 911Y happened at 09:30 pm.
Nampiima says the Premio driver identified as Rwothmio Douglas a resident of Namirembe Road in Kampala escaped death with minor injuries after his speeding car bumped into the Canter, loaded with electric poles from the rear.
She explains that both Rwothmio and the unidentified driver of the Canter were using the road recklessly at the time of the incident. Nampiima says traffic police officers who visited the accident scene found the Canter driver had abandoned his car and fled the scene.
She says despite the accident being minor and no one sustaining major injuries, investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
A recent traffic police report reveals that careless driving, over speeding, overtaking other vehicles among other factors have led to increased road accidents.
On Monday, Nampima revealed that 755 road crashes were registered between January 30 and February 12, 2023. During the said period, 723 people sustained injuries while 152 others perished.
