Kabaka Mutebi II to attend his 68th birthday celebrations at Lubiri
The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will mark his much anticipated 68 birthday in the comfort of his family and subjects at the Lubiri palace in Mengo.
According to the head of the organizing committee Owek David Mpanga, the brief but pompous function starting at noon on Thursday 13, April , 2023, is on invite only and will be attended by the Kabaka in person.
Mpanga told journalists at a press briefing in Lubiri Mengo on Tuesday morning that a total of 250 guests only will join the prestigious king for prayers, his cake cutting and lunch for about one and half hours.
He says the prayers will be led by Pastor Dr Moses Maka Ndimukika the Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda.
Speaking at the same function, Charles Peter Mayiga , the Premier of Buganda Kingdom cast aside doubt on the Kabaka’s ability to be present, assuring the public that just like he was spotted well and healthy on the sidelines of a function at the at Imperial Resort Beach in Busiro, Entebbe over the weekend, he will definitely show up for his birthday as reigning King.
Mayiga also appreciated various religious denominations for holding special prayers for Kabaka Mutebi II from Good Friday until Easter Monday. He hailed the Muslims and Christians for particularly praying on Friday and Sunday respectively ,the seventh day Adventists who remembered the Kabaka on Saturday and individuals who equally stood in prayer.

He praised God for enabling the Kabaka to be productive through the years of his reign as king noting that right from his youth to date, he has been through a journey that many didn’t expect he would go this far.
The Birthday celebrations on Thursday will be proceeded by the Kabaka’s Birthday Run that will take place on Sunday 16th, April 2023. Over 100,000 people are expected to participate and the run will be flagged off by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
Katikiro Mayiga who presided over the launch of the 10th edition at Bulange, Mengo said proceeds from the run would go towards supporting the“The fight to end HIV/ AIDS by 2030′ campaign. The run
This year’s Run is intended to raise awareness and strengthen the efforts to fight the HIV/ AIDS epidemic in Buganda and Uganda at large, under the theme: .”
“After putting up a strong fight against Fistula and Sickle Cells, the Kingdom embarked on a fight against HIV/AIDS in Buganda and in other parts of Uganda through the Kabaka Birthday Run which attracts over 80,000 participants annually,” Katikiro Mayiga said then.
Last year it was about 800,000 people participated.
