The new generation of artists is fed up of being suffocated by the unending comparisons to the music kingpins, Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool.
According to the likes of Gravity Omutujju and Ykee Benda, they feel they are currently more influential and have equally made an indelible mark, musically in Uganda’s music industry.
Those with metallic b*lls have come out openly and told Chamili, Bobi and Bebe that their time is up. Others speak about their grievances behind closed doors.
Much as Bobi Wine came out and stated that new talent should be given a chance during his recent press conference, he still threw a few jibes about his rivals saying there is no way they can be better than him when his arms are tied.
“I’ve been competing with Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone for the last 20 years and I have always been better than them by far in everything. Academically, musically, and financially. The only way they can go past me and claim the number position is by handicapping me by the dictator,” said Bobi.
“So, it is alright to let them enjoy the number one position when I am still blocked from doing music because if the chains are unlocked, the president will have returned.”
This prompted Chameleone to come out and retaliate saying that whoever thinks is the best, they should go for a fresh start and see who will come out on top.
“We should erase the old discs and we start afresh. By next year on Easter, you should be able to tell who the best is from number one to four. Even fresh talent should participate. I have flagged off the race and I will start releasing music next week,” Chameleone said.
Meanwhile, former Firebase Crew Vice Presido, Buchaman claims that Bobi should stop comparing himself to Chamili and Bebe because they are more talented than him.
“They are all in the big league because they sing in different styles. But now Bobi Wine shouldn’t start comparing himself because Chameleone is far better than him when it comes to inspiration. Chameleone has inspired many that have made it in the industry like Clever J and Bitone. If you do not want to become a star in Uganda, sing like Bobi Wine. Chameleone sings in a rough-neck style, the same as Bebe Cool who also adds vocals to his style but Bobi Wine can’t sing well, he was just lucky that his music made it,” he said in an interview.
