Police have netted a man accused of transporting two allegedly stolen cows for sale to abattoirs in Kyengera and Natete, in Kampala.
The suspect identified as Mugema Ismah (32), was nabbed in the wee hours of Wednesday at Kutano Nakawuka Road in Rubaga Division driving the animals in a UAZ 801Y Land Cruiser. He attempted to escape police officers, causing them to deflate the car tyres in order to apprehend him.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman says in the process, Ismah sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at Mulago Hospital.
He reveals that the police acted on a tip about stolen livestock being transported for sale to abattoirs. The officers at the checkpoint inspected the vehicle and discovered two live cows in the back seat and trunk, both securely tied.
Owoyesigyire says they cows are suspected to have been stolen from Matuga. He has further called on members of the public seeking information on stolen cows to report to Natete Police station.
