Centenary Bank, the largest commercial microfinance bank in Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to service by joining the 99th Rotary District Conference. As a platinum sponsor, the bank continues its 13-year partnership with Rotary, contributing UGX 120 million towards the event and various humanitarian initiatives.
The 99th Rotary District Conference, district 9213 kicked off to celebrate and recognize Rotary’s various humanitarian initiatives that have been implemented in various communities across Uganda with a launch at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
At the launch, Managing Director Mr. Fabian Kasi highlighted the synergy between the bank’s mission and Rotary’s service-oriented projects.
“Our ongoing partnership with Rotary is more than just financial support; it is a shared vision of empowering and transforming communities, especially the rural poor in Uganda,” Kasi commented adding, “We are proud to be part of this journey for the last 13 years as a major sponsor and particularly for this DCA, as a platinum sponsor, committing a total of Ugx. 120 million, 100 million in cash, and 20 million in kind. Such humanitarian causes directly relate to our mission as a Bank where we seek to transform lives, especially for the rural poor which is a testament to the great value we attach to our communities.”
In contemplation of the conference’s theme, Rtn Robert Kiggundu, the District Conference Chair, emphasized the significance of upholding hope amidst adversity. “With our theme being ‘Keeping Hope Alive’ and its alignment with Rotary’s mission of fostering positive global change, I urge each of you to embody Rotary’s spirit through acts of service in our daily lives.”
Over the years, Centenary Bank has been at the forefront of numerous community service projects, including the annual cancer run, free malaria drives, family health days, and youth empowerment programs.
Kasi emphasized Centenary Bank’s commitment to social impact, noting, “Within the last year, our bank has directed UGX 2 billion towards corporate social responsibility initiatives, reaching over 12.5 million Ugandans both directly and indirectly. Of this investment, approximately UGX 400 million was dedicated to supporting Rotary projects focused on health, education, environmental conservation, and various social endeavors.”
The bank’s dedication to social responsibility extends beyond monetary contributions, engaging in hands-on activities that foster community development and sustainability. “We are committed to ensuring that our actions today do not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This is why we urge everyone, whether Rotarian or not, to engage in community initiatives and keep hope alive,” Kasi added, echoing this year’s Rotary theme.
Last year marked the 40th anniversary of Centenary Bank’s dedication to transforming lives, and with this milestone, the bank renewed its commitment to its customers. Kasi reiterated the bank’s focus on social impact, stating, “As we commence these celebrations of service above self, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has relied on us for their banking needs over the past four decades. I also invite others to join us as we continue to lead the path toward financial inclusion and transformation for all Ugandans.
