Police in Jinja’s Industrial Area, are hunting for the driver of a Fuso truck that killed a mother in the process of rescuing her child.
Mastula, a 22-year-old woman, tragically lost her life after being knocked by the reversing Fuso truck with registration number UAU 788V. The truck, which was loaded with maize and cassava, had been parked in front of a kiosk where Mastula worked.
According to James Mubi, the Kira Regional Police spokesperson, the truck’s driver, who remains on the run, failed to check his surroundings before reversing. In a desperate act of courage, Mastula noticed the truck approaching her child, Boniface Magumba, who was standing behind it. She rushed to save her baby from the oncoming vehicle, successfully pushing him out of harm’s way. Unfortunately, Mastula herself was struck and killed in the process.
Boniface, who survived the near-death experience, has been hospitalized and is currently on oxygen. Authorities are still searching for the driver responsible for this fatal hit-and-run.
