The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has thrown its weight behind Kalifa Aganaga, real name Mukiibi Sadat, as their official candidate for the Kawempe North by-election, with party president Patrick Amuriat declaring him the best man for the job.

Amuriat, speaking at the party’s Najjanankumbi headquarters, admitted that there were initial doubts about fielding a candidate, but after “deep scrutiny”, FDC found a leader beneath Aganaga’s faded music career and signature dreadlocks.

“We have spoken to our brother Aganaga, and we have learned that beneath those deadlocks, there is a competent leader, a great human,” Amuriat stated,

He even joked that he once considered growing dreadlocks himself, sending the audience into laughter.

FDC’s Western Uganda deputy president, Robert Centenary, defended the party’s choice, comparing Aganaga’s journey to that of the late Muhammad Segirinya, who started as an underdog but went on to become Kawempe North MP before his untimely passing.

“The few hours I spent with Mukiibi Sadat impressed me his conduct, his academic credentials. Sometimes we judge people at face value, but I believe he is an inspiration to young people,” Centenary argued.

Aganaga, CEO of Bad Character Records, has never shied away from politics. In 2021, he was denied a National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for Rubaga South, with the party instead backing current MP Aloysius Mukasa.

He has since declared that he is willing to work with any party that believes in his leadership ambitions—and FDC has given him the shot he wanted.

Meanwhile, FDC also confirmed Sharif Ssebunya as their candidate for the vacant Kazo-Angola Ward councillor seat.
