Makindye East MP Derrick Nyeko got a taste of voter fury after locals in his constituency sent him packing, accusing him of disappearing for five years and only showing up now as the 2026 elections draw near.

In a dramatic video making rounds on social media, Nyeko who was elected in 2021 on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket is seen surrounded by a furious crowd, trying to offer assistance. But instead of welcoming him, the residents flatly rejected his help, demanding to know where he had been since securing their votes.

“We don’t need your help now. Where were you all this time?” some locals shouted, as others ordered him to leave immediately.

The video, shared widely on X (formerly Twitter) by Patro Uganda, has ignited debate, with many noting that Makindye East voters have a history of ditching non-performing MPs after just one term.

Nyeko, who was once linked to the NRM before switching to NUP, has had a controversial political career. He previously faced police investigations over allegations of possessing military attire, raising even more questions about his past.

As 2026 approaches, Makindye East is heating up, and it’s clear that locals are ready to hold their leaders accountable. Will Nyeko survive the political storm, or is his seat already slipping away? Only time will tell.
