In a scandal that has left locals outraged, police in Buyende have arrested a 23-year-old man and a Local Council chairman for their alleged role in an illegal child marriage.
The suspects, identified as Mugeere Wycliff and Mutaka Moses, were busted after a viral video exposed their shocking involvement in a traditional marriage ceremony featuring a 17-year-old girl, who happens to be Mutaka’s own daughter
According to police, on March 2, 2025, Mutaka, the LC I Chairman of Bukyaala Village, hosted the event at his home, officially handing over his underage daughter to Mugeere. The two have since been living as husband and wife, until the law caught up with them.
Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Micheal confirmed the arrests, stating that police are now hunting for more suspects who may have been involved in this unlawful act.
“This is a serious violation of children’s rights, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served,” ASP Kasadha said.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with many questioning how a father could betray his own child in such a manner. Police have urged the public to report any similar cases to law enforcement authorities.
