Independent FDC candidate Papa Salim Were has thumped his colleagues in the Makerere University Guild President election outcome announced last night.
Fifteen candidates contested the charged guild Makerere University elections whose results were confirmed last night after vote counting.
Salim Were, a Veterinary Medicine student from Nsibirwa Hall flogged his colleagues by scooping 3202 votes according to results confirmed by the Electoral Commission chief Isaac Kenneth Isabirye.

Uganda Young Democrats candidate Edward Kinene Ssemakula emerged second with 2267 votes.
Independent candidates, Silver Kent Lwamaza and Andrew Julian Taliwaku emerged third and fourth with 1528 and 1380 votes respectively.
FDC flag bearer Chiluba Fredrick Narsh and NRM candidate Prize Marie Ahimbisibwe were pushed to distant fifth and sixth places.
The current Guild President Paul Kato hailed Salim Were’s win to emerge the 84th Guild President: “We take this opportunity to congratulate and welcome our 84th Guild President, Were Salim.”
His win is attributed to the brave march he organised to Parliament during the togikwato debate in Parliament, which made him a popular figure among students.
