The Ministry of Health (MoH) under its Case Management structure is training UPDF personnel on the Coronavirus pandemic.

The training that started on Monday will run for two days with the solid aim of equipping the trainees with knowledge on how to respond in case an eventuality of Covid 19 hits Uganda.

This comes after in the past few days registered cases of the covid 19 virus the neighboring countries like Kenya 3 cases, Rwanda 2, DRC 1, Tanzania 1  and Sudan which has declared a state of emergency have stirred panic and uncertainty among Ugandans.

Among the participants are; UPDF Director of Medical Services Brig Dr. Steven Kusasira, Director Pharmaceutical UPDF Col Ndagije, Deputy Director Public Health- UPDF Lt Col Dr. Bakehena, Deputy Director General Military Hospital Lt Col Basaaliza,   Maj Dr Jennifer Alanyo among other high profile UPDF medical personnel.

Dr Gorge Upenytho, the Commissioner Community MoH, says they want to create an experienced and skilled mass among the UPDF personnel who can quickly respond to a disaster within any community.

He said they hope these few will be able train others so as to and reach out to the community in case of an outbreak of COVID-19.

He said the case management team will take them through a training on how to manage in case of an outbreak. As a ministry of health, their target is to utilize those trained to become part of the Case Management Team.

The Ministry of Health has not registered any case of COVID-19  as all the 26 suspected cases that were subjected to tests all turned out negative.

The health ministry but has encouraged the public to avoid handshakes and hugs, keep away from mass gatherings, wash hands with soap daily, use sanitizers,  remain vigilant and calm but above all avoid spreading false rumors.
