Uganda Transport Development Agency-UTRADA wants the ministry of transport to add more registration centers to speed up the ongoing registration of taxi and bus operators in the city.

The umbrella body says since the registration closes on June 30th, 2020, it might be impossible for Kampala capital city authority – KCCA and the Ministry of Works to complete the process by then.

The ongoing registration under the two organs involves allocating parks, stages, and route charts to taxi and bus operators in the city.

Mustafa Mayambala the chairperson UTRADA says adding registration centers will speed up the ongoing registration of taxi and bus operators in the city.

Mayambala faults the registration bodies for slow progress in registration leading to high transport fares heaped on passengers.

He wants the concerned authorities to increase the number of registration centers in Kampala to enable large numbers of taxi drivers to register daily.

So far only  3000 taxis have been registered so far out of an estimated 23,000 taxis operating in Kampala.
