The government through the ministry of health has revealed that they have so far distributed 2,220,601 face masks to the public in 8 districts out of 135 districts still waiting.

President Yoweri Museveni committed to providing free reusable masks to all Ugandans aged 6-years and above to aid in public appearances during the lifting COVID-19 restrictions.

Museveni directed that the distribution process starts from the border districts, which are more prone to the virus than the rest of the country as it spreads to others.

So far the districts of Moyo, Amuru, Moroto, kyotera, Adjumani, Isingiro, Rakai, and Busia have received face masks and 590,606 face masks are to be delivered to Arua district today.

However, Local Council Chairpersons-LC’S in Busia district claim they have been left out of the distribution of face masks after the district authorities gave the mantle to Village Health Teams -VHT’s.

They claim VHTs could face challenges in the distribution process because they don’t have much influence in the villages compared to that of the area chairman.

At the launch of the distribution exercise of the masks, the First Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali said that the local council chairpersons will take lead in the distribution.
